Animal models	Male New Zealand rabbits with a mean body weight of 2300 ± 300 g
Dosage form	2000 IU heparin Administered by the intravenous route (i.v.)
Applications	Heparin increased both anti-factor Xa activity and activated partial thromboplastin time (aPTT). Heparin (2000 IU, i.v.) showed an AUC_0→24/kg value of 3.30 ± 0.59 IU·h^-1·mL^-1·kg^-1, with 100% absolute bioavailability. Apart from the parenteral route, heparin could also be administered by the oral route when incorporated into polymeric nanoparticles which were able to maintain the anti-Xa activity of heparin for a longer period.
