Ziprasidone hydrochloride is a new type of atypical broad-spectrum antipsychotic. It is a second-generation antipsychotic and the only antipsychotic that inhibits both norepinephrine receptors (NE) and 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT) reuptake. It is used to treat schizophrenia and has a good effect on acute or chronic, initial or recurrent schizophrenia. It is effective for schizophrenia-related symptoms (including visual and auditory hallucinations, delusions, lack of motivation and social avoidance). In animal tests on mice, rabbits and other animals, it was found that the use of ziprasidone is not carcinogenic. Excessive use may be harmful to patients with impaired liver function. Therefore, such patients should use ziprasidone with caution.
