Procaine penicillin is the procaine salt of penicillin, the product is a long-acting preparation of penicillin, and the blood concentration is maintained for more than 48 hours. It is not acid-resistant, can not be taken orally, can only be injected intramuscular, and intravenous administration is prohibited.

Procaine penicillin is used for chronic infections caused by penicillin-sensitive pathogens, such as uterine abscess, fractures, mastitis, etc. It is also used for actinomyces and leptospira infections. Similar to penicillin, this product is slowly released and absorbed locally after intramuscular injection. The effect is longer than that of penicillin, but the effective concentration in the blood is low, and it is limited to chronic infections caused by pathogens highly sensitive to penicillin, and should not be used to treat serious infections. In order to increase the blood concentration in a relatively short time, it can be mixed with penicillin sodium (potassium) to make an injection to take into account both long-term and rapid effect.

Application:

Like penicillin G, it is used for less serious infections, but also for streptococcal pneumonia, meningitis, and syphilis.

Administration instructions:

1. Procaine penicillin suspension can only be used for intramuscular deep injection, not intravenous administration. Intravenous injection can cause severe reactions such as convulsion, hypotension, cardiac and respiratory arrest. 2. Drug overdose is mainly manifested as adverse reactions of the central nervous system, which should be stopped in time and given symptomatic and supportive treatment, and hemodialysis can be used to remove drugs if necessary.
