Production method

1. Preparation: o-methylbenzyl dimethyl ethyl ammonium bromide

(3): Add o-methylbenzyldimethylamine to the reaction bottle equipped with agitator and reflux condenser

(2)29.8g, bromoethane 32.7g(0.3mol), anhydrous ethanol 40mL, heating reflux for 1h. Bromoethane was supplemented with 10.8g(0.1mol) and the reflux reaction continued for 3h. Ethanol and unreacted bromoethane are steamed under reduced pressure. The remaining 300mL anhydrous ether was added, the solid precipitated was filtered, the filter cake was washed with ether, and the compound was obtained by vacuum drying

(4): Add the compound to the reaction bottle equipped with a stirrer

(3)38.7g(0.15mol), molten sodium acetate 24.6g(0.3mol), glacial acetic acid 100mL, heating reflux 24h. Cool to room temperature, pour 250mL of water and neutralize with 84g sodium bicarbonate. Ether was extracted three times, the ether layer was combined, and then washed with saturated sodium bicarbonate solution, saturated salt water, and dried with anhydrous magnesium sulfate. After the ethyl ether was recovered and distilled under vacuum, o-methylbenzyl acetate was obtained from 119-121 ℃/2.0kPa or 129-131 ℃/2.8kPa fractions

(4) 21.6-22.4g, yield 88%-91%. O-methylbenzyl alcohol

(1): Add 50mL water, 5g sodium hydroxide (0.12mol), and the above compounds into the reaction bottle

(4)16.4g(0.1mol), methanol 50mL, heating reflux 2h. After cooling, add 50mL water and extract ether three times. Combined with ether layer, washed with water, saturated salt water washing, anhydrous sodium sulfate drying. After recovering the ether, 50mL of petroleum ether was added and frozen in an ice salt bath. The extracted solids are washed with cold petroleum ether and dried to obtain o-methylbenzyl alcohol
