Nomegestrol acetate, 17-hydroxy-6-methyl-19-norpregna-4,6-diene-3,20-dione acetate,is being investigated as the progestin component of anew oral contraceptive, in combination with the estrogenestradiol. This new combination, NOMAC/E2, is in phaseIII trials and would be the first oral contraceptive to utilizeestradiol itself as the estrogenic component. Structurally,NOMAC is considered a nor-progesterone derivative thatlacks the C19 methyl group in megestrol acetate. |
