Flupentixol (Brand name “Depixol and Fluanxol”) is a kind of thioxanthene-class antipsychotic neuroleptic drug. Its primary application is being used as a long-acting injection given once in every two or three weeks to patient of schizophrenia who have a poor compliance with medicine and are suffering frequent relapse of illness. It is a kid of D1 and D2 receptor antagonist. The mechanism of action of Flupentixol is not fully understood. Since it is a powerful antagonist of both D1 and D2 dopamine receptors as well as an alpha-adrenergic receptor antagonist, its antipsychotic activity is indicated to be related to its inhibitory effect of postsynaptic dopamine receptors located in the central never system. Flupentixol is not approved in US, but has been approved in UK, Australia, Canada, Russian, South Africa, New Zealand, Philippines and some other countries.
